Arteeeest's notes

yhlee prompted me with Riza Hawkeye: how did she come through her stint as a sniper with an intact conscience? (But really, almost anything you do with her--whether it's something lighthearted with Black Hayate or her friendship with Rebecca or something darker and more serious--will be fine! The above is just a suggestion.)

It was an awesome prompt and I thank her for it. Rebecca and Riza's friendship is only dealt with in three scenes in the manga, but there's so much great stuff in that little thumbnail sketch. Besides that we get to see Riza's sweet, snarky off-duty personality, it seems like Rebecca kind of plays Maes to her Roy - her daft antics bring Riza out of her shell, but there's some deep comradeship beneath the silly surface. Like Maes, Rebecca is also secretly an incredible badass. Riza has been through some tough stuff, and strong as she is, I like to think Rebecca's friendship has been a source of support and warmth through the years.

It was actually supposed to be joint training - hence Riza's long hair and the general air of jollity. It was based on a pic of Roy and Maes (http://usera.ImageCave.com/dirtydogs57/roymangamisc005.jpg) that you may have seen. I decided that one looked a bit too green for Ishbal, although Roy's hair and Maes' lack of beard do seem to make it earlier than I've set it. Hmm. For the purposes of my drawing, Maes doesn't have a beard in the Arakawa shot because Gracia bet him she could get an entire packet of M & Ms in her mouth at once, and the forfeit was he had to shave.

Now watch enemy jump on that last comment and take it straight to the gutter.

--pfffff, you know, when I wrote the word "Ishbal," I was like, "But what if that's not Ishbal? OH WELL." You know, completely missing the hair reference. :P Oh well. I blame jet-lag.

As for the M & M comment, I don't think we need Enemy to make it dirty. My mind is doing it well enough. Even though I can completely see that scenario in my head. XD

I am utterly horrified at my lack of beta fail on the Maes beard front. I was too busy staring t their asses. My humble apologies - but I do consider the Roy/Maes pic in question to be Ishbal celebration, so I should have made comment about Riza's hair. BETA FAIL. We can all pretend it is joint training now.

Thanks! I always love how Rebecca is hyper-girly but also tough as nails. She'd blow up a tank with a rocket launcher and then whine that the backdraft messed up her hair.

XD I like to think there's scope in the pic to ship Riza with Roy or Miles? I have no idea why Riza/Rebecca doesn't really bunny me? I should get my FMA yuri on more for Maria, though. She needs action.

The height difference between Riza and Miles is very adorable, though. I like to think of her borrowing his pyjama top and sort of swimming in it.
