Title: But I Know What I Like
Characters: Roy/Ed
Rating: PG
Word count: 194
Prompt:
pandoraculpa, Roy and Ed, persistence of memory.
Note: I went with the Dali painting The Persistence of Memory, aka the one with the melting clocks.
"You know," said Roy, "you could have considered that part of the point of the painting was to make you feel discombobulated. I know you get twitchy when you're confronted with anything where you don't instantly know what it means -"
"I know what it means. Drugs. Lots of drugs."
Roy chuckled. "You sound like a grumpy middle-aged man."
"Yeah, well, I hang out with one so much -" he shrugged at Roy. "Yeah, it's obvious, so what. I had to do that joke, you put it right out there."
Roy attempted dignity. "As I was saying, part of the artist's point is that he's trying to short-circuit the normal ways people respond to representative art, and elicit a visceral response that comes straight from your unconscious mind -"
"Roy?"
"Yes?"
"Are you repeating all that from the review in last Sunday's Times?"
"Possibly."
"Are you doing it so I'll think you have a huge, sexy brain?"
"Did it work?"
Ed gave him a very sly grin and bumped his shoulder against Roy's. "Nope. But lucky for you, for some reason it really turns me on when you try too hard."
